Hello and welcome! If you are a mature adult and looking to get in shape, lose weight, gain weight, make lifestyle changes, or just feel great, then you are one of the people that Al and Melissa had in mind when they created "Fifty Plus Fitness".

In February of the year 2008, Al Josselyn and Melissa McGarry realized that there was a huge gap in the fitness industry. It seemed the gyms and fitness centers were all catering to the young, and that the employees of these establishments for the most part were young. What about the over 50 crowd? Research showed them that many in this age group were intimidated or didn't feel comfortable with trainers that were half or one third their age. As a result they established a personal training business catering to the Baby Boomers and beyond generations. In may of 2009 they adopted the name "Fifty Plus Fitness".

They are now, a team of personal trainers all over the age of 50. In addition to being certified as personal trainers, between them they as have certifications in Nutrition and Wellness and Older Adult Fitness. They believe that personal training should be personal. Each individual is starting from a different fitness level and had their own unique goals. As such they have their own custom program designed taking into consideration their fitness level, history, current health status and goals. They do not believe in cookie cutter routines.

Prior to training with them each individual is asked to complete self assessment forms and a physical assessment is completed. A plan is then developed and followed up with regular counseling sessions, training programs and regular re assessments. The program will be designed with agility, balance, flexibility, aerobic capacity and muscle strength in mind.

We are independent personal trainers and recognize that different venues suit different clients. So in an effort to best meet the needs of our clients we have chosen to work out of different gyms, homes and fitness facilities in both private and public buildings.

Al Josselyn Al Josselyn

Al is one of those people that have always been around the gym.  He began working out while in high school and has been instructing, coaching and training for over 40 years.  Al is passionate about the importance of fitness for the older adult, and prefers to work with the age group he refers to as “Baby boomers and beyond”.   His clients would tell you that he truly understands how to make training for them safe and enjoyable as well as effective.  Al believes that goals should be set around functional movement, strength and flexibility, and when these goals are met, the aesthetic benefits will come as a bonus.

Al is presently certified through CanFit Pro as a “Personal Trainer Specialist”, A “Nutrition and Wellness Specialist” as well as an “Older Adult Fitness Specialist”.
